Webster Women’s Basketball Team Hangs on to Defeat Spalding

Stong defense helped the Gorloks to hang on for the win

The Webster University Women’s Basketball Team defeated the Spalding University Golden Eagles, Friday night, by a score of 53-50. The Gorloks began the game down 8-0 before rallying to take a 26-23 halftime lead.

Katy Meyer led the Gorloks with 21 points and six rebounds, including four three-point buckets. Megan Willett added 13 points in the winning effort. Maggie Zehner contributed nine points. Loren Dougleass added five points, Courtney Pursley had three points and Kaliann Rickard sore two points in the win.

Kelly Harrod led all scorers with 29 points for Spalding. Beth Jamison added ten points followed by Lauren Reed, who contributed eight points in the losing effort.

Spalding began the game on an 8-0 run before the Gorloks answered with their own 7-0 run to get it to a one point deficit. Webster then rallied to take a three point half time lead.

The Gorloks got up to a seven point lead in the second half before the Golden Eagles came back to tie the game up. Webster took a five point lead before Harrod made three-pointer to get it to within two points. The Gorloks closed the game out with strong defense to maintain third place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletics Conference.

Webster’s next home game is February 19 versus Greenville College. Coverage will begin at 5:50 CT on The Galaxy.
