Local Project Episode 15: One Year Retrospective, Part One

If you’ve never listened to The Local Project before, over the Winter Break we’ve been producing something of a Greatest Hits compilation to get you up to speed. Back in late 2010, Galaxy DJ Jake Videmschek and staff member John Schwartz founded The Local Project with the mission statement of giving an outlet for artists in Saint Louis to talk about their experiences working in town to learn about the unique dynamics of the city’s music scene. Over the next year, LMP has collected 14 sprawling 60 to 90 minute long interviews with 13 diverse bands and artists, each one with something new to add to the story. In part one of this two-part retrospective, we re-play/post some of our favorite interview clips along with our own Producers’ commentary with our thoughts and behind-the-scenes stories.

Introduction: LMP, one year later

Local Project special: Farrell Webber’s Production of Rocky Horror Picture Show

Saint Louis theater has never been covered in past Local Project episodes, but local musician Farrell Webber gave us the perfect opportunity to start. Webber is producing and starring in a new stage adaptation (of the movie adaptation of the original stage production) of Rocky Horror Picture Show with an entirely local cast, playing one night only at the St Charles Family Arena on December 3rd. AND: for the opening act, Farrell and his band will tackle covering RHPS co-star Meat Loaf’s album Bat Out of Hell in its entirety. In the interview below, you can hear about the complicated road leading up to this one-of-a-kind performance, as well as Farrell’s side projects including Houses of the Holy, a defiantly non-gimmicky tribute to the music of Led Zeppelin.

Part 1: Farrell’s background

Part 2: Auditions, Rehearsals, Costuming, and show prep

Part 3: Speedbumps and Philosophies on adapting classics

Part 4: The influence of a theater background

You can visit Farrell Webber’s official site for more information on his backstory, upcoming shows, and multimedia. Don’t forget to check out his production of Rocky Horror at the St. Charles Family Arena on Saturday December 3rd (6:00 Doors, 7:00 show) at an incredible price range of $5-15 (go reserve tickets NOW), and Zeppelin fans should be sure to stop by his next Houses of the Holy show this Saturday, also at the Family Arena.

You can download Adeum’s mixtape here.

The interview opens by introducing Adeum and some discussion of the ethics of “recycling” beats and their role in starting a career in hip-hop:

Adeum interview Part 2
